Online Job Application for Target Jobs

Target Canada first entered the country around 2011. While in business, the discount department store chain offered many of the same products as the U.S. brand. The Canadian off chute maintained over 130 locations at the height of operations. Storefronts sat in New Brunswick, Quebec, Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia.

Department stores like Target Canada provide a wide range of products and merchandise. Similar retailers include Walmart, The Bay, Eaton’s, and Nordstrom. Shoppers find any number of electronics, clothing, furniture, sporting goods, and toys. Most Canadian department store chains even offer baby gift and wedding present registry services. Other services may include in-house coffee shops, gift-wrapping, and photo processing.

In 2015, Target Canada announced the liquidation of all assets and the eventual removal of the brand from the national market. However, stores like the American retailer continuously need to hire entry-level and professional workers alike. Part-time openings and full-time job opportunities remain in wide abundance throughout the North American country, especially in sales, customer service, and stock. Many of the stores utilize similar application and hiring processes. Simply apply online or visit a Canadian department store in person for immediate employment consideration.

Popular Target Canada Jobs and Salary Information

Minimum age requirements for the department store industry hover around 16 years old. However, some locations prefer applicants 18 or older. Employment seekers stand the best chances for employment in the following retail positions:

Sales Floor – Sales floor associates make up a majority of store workforces. The position requires little-to-no work experience for new applicants. Employees working on the sales floors mainly help customers in any department of the store, including electronics, clothing, and home appliances. Quite often, sales floor team members stock new products onto shelves, which requires some manual dexterity and general stamina. Depending on experience, hourly wages for department store sales associates range from minimum wage to more than $12.00.

Front End – Front end associates typically include cashiers and customer service counter attendants. Front end jobs involve cash-handling, processing customer orders, handling returns, and resolving any other discrepancies. Friendliness and social skills are equally important for front end associates, especially during rushes. Similar to other entry-level positions, the job title offers between $9.00 and $12.00 an hour.

Store Management – Store managers provide leadership and direction to subordinate retail workers. Often taking responsibility for assigned departments, managers train new team members, schedule workers, organize daily operations, open and close stores, and delegate work to entry-level employees. Annual salary options historically start around $45,000 and rise to more than $70,000 a year, on average.

Benefits of Working at Target Canada
Target offers comprehensive job benefits to eligible store associates. Job benefits available to employees of U.S. stores cover both medical and financial services. In Canada, department stores offer similar employment benefits, such as pension schemes, healthcare coverage, paid time off, discounts on products and services, company-paid life insurance, short-term and long-term disability, optional coverage for spouses and children, and basic accidental death and dismemberment insurance. Careers in corporate capacities exist via fast-track programmes or other advancement opportunities.

History
Plans for expanding the Target brand into Canada began in the early 2000s. In 2011, Target signed an agreement with the Hudson Bay Company to purchase former department stores and subsequently rebuild and rebrand the locations. By the end of the year, the U.S. based department store managed over 80 locations in Canada. Operations steadily grew over the next two years to include more than 130 locations, with plans to open over 100 more by 2014. However, the retailer unexpectedly declared bankruptcy in early 2015 and closed every storefront by April of the same year.

Products and Services
Target Canada offered many of the same products and services as the American branch of the department store company. Customers purchased anything from electronics, furniture, sporting goods, kitchenware, and home appliances to food, toys, and clothing for men, women, and children. The chain sourced products domestically from several Canadian suppliers and distributors.

Financial
The former Canadian off chute served as a subsidiary of Target Corporation. Based out of Minneapolis, MN, the department store is one of the biggest retail corporations in the United States, with about 1,800 locations worldwide. Target Corporation generates around $72 billion in annual revenue and trades as a public company on the New York Stock Exchange under the initials TGT. A massive workforce of around 347,000 employees maintain the international network of stores.
